See you Tuesday (a/k/a Fashionday!) at the Detroit Design Festival
The Detroit Design Festival kicks off tomorrow and runs through Saturday, Sept. 26. DDF 2015 will surely live up to its reputation for offering remarkable opportunities for inspiration and collaboration. For those of us who are particularly interested in fashion design, Tuesday, September 22, 2015 is the day you can’t miss at DDF. Check out all that DDF has to offer, particularly the Track 2 events. I hope that I will see you Tuesday at Wayne State University’s McGregor Conference Center:
At 10:00 a.m., for a panel that includes Shinola’s Jen Guarino, addressing Re-tooling for the 21st Century: Educating and Training Detroit’s Future Makers. Jen was the first speaker in The Runway’s, 411 Speaker Series. Her enthusiasm for the maker movement is infectious.
At 3:00 pm, for my presentation - A Pattern for Success: Legal Workshop for Fashion Designers. I will focus on the needs of designers in the “start-up” phase of their business, giving attendees a “to do” list, recommendations of what you can accomplish DIY and where to look for free or low cost advice, and guidance on what you need to avoid, as you launch a fashion business. For lawyers and law students, this presentation will be a useful overview of the topics that comprise the burgeoning field of Fashion Law.
At 6:00 pm, for the Keynote Lecture: The Future of the Fashion: Fast-Fashion, Conscious Consumerism, Sustainability & Detroit//Documentary Screening of “The True Cost.” The moderated discussion panel that will accompany the screening includes Karen Buscemi of Detroit Garment Group and Matthew Burnett of Maker’s Row. For those of you who attended FashionSpeak in 2014, you have heard Karen and Matthew and know that any panel that includes the two of them will be a “not miss” event.
Looking forward to DDF 2015, and to seeing you on Tuesday! Deanna
