Fashion Designer Khanh Nguyen Shares Her Passion and Wisdom with Michigan Fashion Startups
The world of fashion is changing. No longer do aspiring designers need to live and work in traditional fashion capitals like New York, Paris or Milan in order to make a living. In fact, Michigan is continuing to emerge as a fashion design and manufacturing hub.
This movement is evident right here in Lansing, home to The Runway, Michigan’s premier fashion incubator. The Runway’s primary goal is to support fashion entrepreneurs in establishing and growing their business, and to serve as a catalyst to spur economic development and expand the fashion and apparel industry’s presence in the region, state and nationwide.
Foster Swift proudly supports The Runway, and recently sponsored its “Starting Small, Going Big: A Fashion 411 Event,” which featured a discussion with noted Dallas-based fashion designer Khanh Nguyen. The Runway’s Fashion 411 speaker series is designed to highlight individuals sharing their stories of success as well as their failures in order to motivate, inspire, and teach startups in the fashion industry what it takes to succeed.
I had the pleasure of introducing Khanh at the event. She shared a tremendous amount of wisdom with the audience and emphasized the importance of focusing not just on the passion to create but also on the business: “Fashion isn't just about the dream but the business. The dream is what gets you to design, the business is what sustains the dream." Be inspired by all that Khanh had to share here.
