The Runway Celebrates Its First Anniversary!
On October 21, 2015, The Runway, Lansing’s fashion incubator, celebrated its first anniversary and announced its new business model. The new business model includes Lansing Community College cut and sew classes, on site, and new “resource tenants” to include the Michigan Garment Industry Council and Creative Many. I encourage you to see the details of the new business model and the resources it will provide to designers, as reported by the Lansing State Journal.
For those of us who have been affiliated with The Runway from its beginning, the anniversary event was a great opportunity to celebrate the creativity of the designers who are tenants of the incubator. It was also a celebration of the creativity of the individuals in so many organizations, to include LEAP, MEDC and LCC, who recognized an opportunity for something that has never previously existed. The Runway, particularly with its new programing, is a very unique means of giving fledgling designers access to the education and industry contacts that they need to launch a successful fashion design business without leaving Michigan.
We also enjoyed the first ever Fashion Hatching and congratulate winner Lauren Olson! Her brand, Remark, seamlessly connects (no pun intended) cause with design.
